As friend after friend, relative after relative stopped by everyone echoed the same statement – Faith was special. While this was nice to hear, what I found particularly rewarding was the way Michelle instantaneously took to motherhood. Now this did not surprise me in the least, since I had watched her selflessly love and care for countless kids over the years as we ministered in various social settings. Even so, it brought great joy and satisfaction to see her fulfill a calling God had placed on her life, now in personal motherhood.
As a pastor I had preached sermons on motherhood and was acquainted with the various scriptures that spoke of motherhood. Now I could see it modeled right before my eyes. Michelle selflessly sacrificed as she sat by Faith’s bed grabbing an hour of sleep here and there during the night, for the first few days. It was evident she was the nurturing mother who would be quick to get up in the middle of the night when her daughter was sick and listen for every sniffle and know just what her child needed.
I also knew of her sincere faith in Christ, which I was fortunate to witness. I knew her sincere faith would be transferred to Faith as Michelle sought to mold Faith in the person God created her to be. These characteristics and many more that Michelle exemplified can be summed up in one chapter from Proverbs. In chapter 31, Solomon revealed the ideal wife and mother. I had seen the description of the Proverbs 31 wife lived out by Michelle. When we had Faith, I saw the Proverbs 31 mother come out in her. Michelle faithfully lived out this mandate until her death on June 27, 2016.
